No, we do not recommend modifying the shaft of the DC530 in any way. Modifying the shaft in any way weakens the structure needed to support the incredibly high loads generated by the eccentric.
Inside the housing is an eccentric (imbalanced) cylinder that is supported by four bearings (two on each side). Inside the tip is also a bath of oil that distributes the heat generated by the eccentric to the outside. The shaft is designed to always be submerged into some sort of liquid (concrete primarily). If the vibrator is run in free air, the shaft overheats almost instantly (the concrete acts as a cooling fluid that takes the heat away from the shaft).
This unit is designed for vibrating concrete or mortar and is not designed for any other purpose.
